Hello all. With the major damage from Hurricane Irma, the golf course will be closed until further notice.  As work progresses, we will update our website accordingly.  Thank you from the staff of Florida Keys Country Club.

Meet our Team

William (Tony) Young - Course Superintendent

Tony has been with Florida Keys Country Club for almost 2 years. He is our very talented Course Superintendent.  He has worked miracles with our greens in the past year and "they look the best they have in years!"   This should come as no surprise as he has been a Golf Course Superintendent for over 32 years.

He has been married to his beautiful wife for 35 years.  He loves to play golf in his spare time and if not doing that, you can find him with a fishing rod in hand!!! We are very lucky to have Tony watching over our golf course!

Tom Kochensparger, PGA - Golf Professional

Effective January 1st, 2017, Tom Kochensparger, PGA begins his role as Golf Professional at Florida Keys Country Club in Marathon, Florida.

Tom was previously employed by Cleveland Metroparks (Ohio) as the Golf Professional at Manakiki Golf Course in Willoughby Hills, Ohio, on Cleveland’s east side for nearly 23.  Manakiki is a classic Donald Ross design voted by Golfweek Magazine as the #3 course available to the public in the state.

Tom started playing golf at age 10 by sneaking on a local course (Harbor Hills CC, Buckeye Lake, Ohio) with his little league buddies, and fell in love with the game.  At age 16, he started working at that same club which started his career in golf. Tom played varsity golf at Hebron Lakewood HS for three years.

He started his professional career when relocating to Fort Myers, Florida with his parents at Myerlee Country Club as assistant golf professional.  After Myerlee, he took an assistants position at The Dunes Golf and Tennis club on Sanibel Island.  During a 3-year period at the Dunes, he was the golf coach at Bishop Verot HS in Fort Myers compiling a 53-7 record.  “Being a high school coach was extremely rewarding watching the kids mature not only in golf, but life as well”.

Tom’s next opportunity moved him to Bergen County, New Jersey, as assistant golf professional at River Vale Country Club.  “That was a unique position.  The club was owned by Fuji Country USA, and a large amount of our play was from Japan.  At that time, golf in Japan was extremely expensive with memberships selling well over $1,000,000 in Japan.  We would get large groups that would charter flights to the states, and utilize our facility”.

He kept building his resume by relocating to Cleveland, Ohio and accepted the positon of 1st assistant professional at the highly regarded Beechmont Country Club.  After serving the membership of Beechmont for 3 years, he landed the role at Manakiki Golf Course.  “We took Manakiki to a high level of not only great playing conditions, but great customer service as well.

In his new role at Florida Keys Country Club, Tom will be overseeing the day to day golf operations, as well as bolstering the teaching program.  “I think it’s very important to get the word out that Florida Keys Country Club is available to the public..not only golf, but teaching programs as well.  One of my goals here at the Club is to build the game though junior golf, which is golf’s future.  I also hope to re-kindle the golf team at Marathon HS”.   “In addition, I’m excited to get involved with the improvements that will be happening at Florida Keys CC in the near future”.  Tom will be available for lessons to all by calling the golf shop at 305-743-3433.

  • Tom is a Quarter Century Member of the Professional Golfers Association of America.
  • Over 5000 lesson taught during his career (35 years of teaching)
  • 2005 Team Match Play Champion in the Northern Ohio PGA Section
Teaching ideology:  “Golf is a game of fundamentals.  Not only for the beginner, but high level players as well”.

“Understanding how tennis instruction has evolved from the turn, step, swing method to today’s kinetics method has been invaluable to imparting the knowledge of the game to recreational and league players of all ages and skill levels. Whether it's stroke production, tactics or strategy, or playing tennis I try to make tennis FUN. For me the only bad tennis is no tennis.” - Richard Lorenzo
